Construction Site Maintenance Worker

Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville, Inc. (HabiJax) is currently seeking a Construction Site Maintenance Worker to help us serve families and individuals in need of a hand up to build a place they can call home. HabiJax is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a global nonprofit housing organization seeking to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Job Summary

The Construction Site Maintenance Worker performs various activities to keep HabiJax’s land, construction sites, and construction warehouse safe, clean, and secure. This is a hands-on position that requires driving trucks with trailers and performing physical labor working outside and in HabiJax’s construction warehouse. The Construction Site Maintenance Worker must exhibit a strong work ethic, enjoy being physically active, and demonstrate time management and dependability.

Work Location and Environment

This position is based out of the HabiJax Construction Office and operates in the Jacksonville and Northeast Florida area. This position may require local travel to various HabiJax land, construction sites, event sites, warehouse, and office locations. This position requires extended periods of sitting and standing and may require working in various weather conditions. The employee in this position must also occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position and the standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate HabiJax vehicles and equipment in performing duties for construction operations.
  • Clean the property and remove debris from HabiJax land and construction sites.
  • Break up and remove excess concrete from HabiJax construction sites.
  • Perform landscaping and lawn maintenance on HabiJax land and construction sites.
  • Perform safety and security checks on HabiJax land and construction sites.
  • Transport trash and debris from HabiJax land and construction sites to the city landfill.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining the HabiJax construction warehouse.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of materials and equipment.
  • Assist with the delivery of materials and equipment to and from HabiJax construction sites.
  • Assist with the upkeep and maintenance of HabiJax vehicles and equipment.
  • Report any mechanical problems with vehicles or equipment to supervisor immediately.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with department and HabiJax staff.
  • Adhere to HabiJax and Construction department policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as required and directed.

Education, Experience, and Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated experience with the safe operation of motor vehicles including trucks with trailers.
  • Demonstrated experience with the safe operation of lawn maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Basic knowledge of construction processes and equipment.
  • Ability to organize time and materials to work effectively while maintaining a clean work site.

  • Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina and strength to perform required manual labor tasks.

  • Valid Driver’s License insurable by HabiJax’s insurance carrier.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background and drug screen.
  • Authorized to legally work in the United States.
